Gramas pistachios have a unique, delectable taste; crunchy, salty, and savory - with just a touch of sweetness.
Here at Gramas, we offer both Antep and Siirt pistachio types. We provide sliced, peeled, extra roasted jumbo, powdered, green chopped, gray kernel, raw red kernel, and red inner salted kernel pistachio varieties for our customer’s specific needs.
Turkey has long been known as one of the best environments for pistachio growing. The weather and climate make ideal conditions to cultivate and harvest these delectable nuts.
Our harvest runs from late August to early October, beginning when the pistachio trees are around 5 - 7 years old. The nuts are mechanically harvested, and are then washed, rinsed, and soaked overnight. Next, they are spread out to dry under the hot sun. Finally, the pistachios are salted again and dry roasted.
Let’s look at some of the facts:
The Turkish Pistachio (Antep nuts) is a bit harder to open than the ajar plumper California pistachio. The small size and hard-to-open shell is protecting a meatier, richer tasting nut.
It's uncertain where pistachio nut trees originated, but possibly in Central Asia. Growing pistachio trees commercially for nut export occurs primarily in Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Italy and Syria where the arid climate is optimal for growth.
Pistachios are excellent for baking, cooking, adding to salads, and using as a topping for ice cream and pudding. Their culinary uses are extensive. It can be sued as pistachio paste, pistachio butter, or even pistachio flour.
The shelf life of pistachios is one year.
